|Valle de Mantaro|
This is a beautiful full day excursion. We arrive to Jauja on an excellent road through an incomparable landscape. Founded in 1534 by Pizarro as the first capital of the Government of Peru. During colonial times, it was craved for resting for its excellent weather, and it was even the inspiration for paradisiacal stories.
The Pacca lagoon is located at 2.5 km from the city. This lake is the official track for regatta/yatch race, promoted by the Peruvian rowing federation.
If you do this excursion you will get a motorboat ride and a delicious rural lunch at its shores. Afterwards, you can visit Molinos town, famous for their wood carves, before going to the Ocopa Monastery, built on 1725 by the Father Francisco de San José. It also has an amazing art gallery with canvas from the Cusco and from Huamanga schools, a natural history museum and a huge library with 20,000 copies that contains a valuable collection, perfectly filed and catalogued, a remarkable, valuable, intellectual mainly, relic.
We cannot forget to go to San Jeronimo, a small town of silversmiths well-known for their delicate filigree jewelry. Coming back from Tarma we will pass by La Oroya, a very typical metallurgical city in the region, where we can see the impressive foundry complex and its high chimney that cannot be seeing coming from Lima.
